Miquel de Palol awarded the Prix Laure Bataillon

Le testament d’Alcestes, by Miquel de Palol, translated from the Catalan by François-Michel Durazzo and published in France by Éditions Zulma, has been awarded the Prix Laure Bataillon.

The Laure Bataillon Award is a literary prize created in 1986 by the cities of Nantes and Saint-Nazaire to reward the best work of fiction translated during the past year. It is awarded jointly to the foreign writer and his French translator.

This literary prize was created by the Hispanic translator and literary critic Laure Guille-Bataillon in 1986. Following the death of Laure Guille-Bataillon in 1990, the Prize was renamed Laure-Bataillon in homage to Julio Cortazar's translator. The literary prize has been organized since 1993 by the House of Foreign Writers and Translators of Saint-Nazaire.

The French press said about Le Testament d’Alcestes:

“Vertigineux.”
