António Lobo Antunes donates his legacy to Lisbon City Council

António Lobo Antunes has decided to donate all his books, manuscripts, prizes and awards to a public library in Benfica, near the house where the writer was born.

Lisbon City Council will receive the estate of Lobo Antunes, which includes his personal collection of around twenty thousand literary works. This will belong to the city and be kept in the future António Lobo Antunes Library in Benfica, in an old building with 2,000 square meters of floor space that will be refurbished for this purpose.

The António Lobo Antunes Library will be a centre "for students and researchers".

“This corresponds to a desire of mine to leave my papers, my books and my accolades to the country, and nothing better than leaving them to the city where I was born and where I feel comfortable,” explained the author.

The library will have a copy of each international edition of the works of Lobo Antunes, who will publish a new book of chronicles this August.
