Rosa Montero and Olga Merino, longlisted for the Mario Vargas Llosa Biennial Novel Prize

La buena suerte (Good Fortune), by Rosa Montero, and La forastera (The Stranger), by Olga Merino, are amongst the 12 finalists books for the very prestigious IV Mario Vargas Llosa Biennial Novel Prize.

The Vargas Llosa Chair and the University of Guadalajara Foundation, with the support of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), announced last 9 April 2021 the twelve finalists of the IV Mario Vargas Llosa Biennial Novel Prize, which will be held in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, the next month of September.

3. Fernando Butazzoni (Uruguay): Los que nunca olvidarán
4. Carmen Boullosa (México): El libro de Eva
5. Dolores Reyes (Argentina): Cometierra
6. Alejandro Zambra (Chile): Poeta chileno
7. Juan Tallón (España): Rewind
8. Santiago Gamboa (Colombia): Será larga la noche
9. Juan Gabriel Vásquez (Colombia): Volver la vista atrás
10. Sara Mesa (España): Un amor
11. Rosa Montero (España): La buena suerte
12. Leonardo Padura (Cuba): Como polvo en el viento

From this selection, the jury will choose five novels, whose authors will participate in the activities of the IV Bienal de Novela Vargas Llosa, which will take place from September 23 to 26 at the Santander Group of Performing Arts of the University of Guadalajara, in Mexico . From these, a jury chaired by the writer and journalist Leila Guerriero will choose the winner of the award, endowed with 100,000 US dollars. The announcement will be made at the closing of the festival, where the Nobel Prize for Literature, Mario Vargas Llosa, will be present. In this edition, 412 novels were submitted to the award.
