IN THE MIDST OF WINTER by Isabel Allende at "Books at Berlinale" 2018

“Books at Berlinale” 2018— Twelve International Novels with Screen Potential

In the Midst of Winter by Isabel Allende, was selected by “Books at Berlinale 2018” from close to 150 submissions from 30 countries, as one of the twelve new, unusual literary works that could be turned into films.

The selected books, from Germany, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Norway, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom, were showcased last February 19, at the popular presentation, “Books at Berlinale”, which has been part of the Berlinale Co-Production Market, since 2006, in cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair. The event was held at the Berlin House of Representatives, within the Berlin International Film Festival.

Our foreign rights agents, Laura Palomares and Carles Masdeu attended the meeting with the film producers and other literary agents and publishers, where Laura pitched In the Midst of Winter, the newest book by Isabel Allende.

As Laura said in her interview in Borsenblatt. Net. Das Portal der Buchbranche : “A film extends the life of a book, and it allows its readers to live again the story that they imagined but captured in images. It also allows them to feel different emotions than they did when reading. To those who haven’t read the novel, it can discover a good story, and possibly the author behind it. The cinema creates readers and literature creates cinephiles. They are brother arts.”
