Ana María Moix

Ana María Moix wrote Julia when she was just twenty years old, a novel published in 1970 that recounts the painful coming-of-age of a teenage girl in the bourgeois, repressed, blinkered Barcelona of the dictatorship. Expelled from the paradise of childhood and in need of maternal approval, Julia poses questions about the search for identity, the need for female liberation and love between women. Unexpected themes in the narrative of the 1970s that now return with all the force and emotion of a work that became a milestone and that can now be understood with the benefit of hindsight.
