Ana María Moix

An unjustly neglected poet, now rescued from obscurity in an expanded and revised edition.

Ana María Moix was the only woman included in the celebrated anthology Nueve novísimos, published in 1970, which signposted a new aesthetic in Spanish poetry and cleared the way for a group of poets who were just embarking on a brilliant career. For some reason Ana María Moix's poetry was sidelined and forgotten by the general public, who better remember her as the great story-teller that she was, as well as for her articles in her press, mostly devoted to literature. But her poetry, which is youthful, urban and experimental, remains just as effective today as it was then and can still be read as a “wonderful lesson in freedom”, in the words of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. 

In her poems, unrhymed and narrative in style, and capable of enveloping us with the same enchantment as a scene from the best classical cinema, we find broken and bitter hearts, the lost paradise of youth and fading hopes, love stories that end in heart-breaking separations and the eternal struggle of memory to prevail over oblivion. 

Moix also translated Marguerite Duras, Amélie Nothomb, Françoise Sagan and Wislawa Szymborska, writers whom she deeply admired.

This volume is a complete collection of Ana María Moix's poetry, including the hitherto unknown works published by Lumen in its canonical collection.
