John and Geraldine are divorced and have been ignoring each other for years, even though they both live in London and have a daughter together. Their quiet lives are shattered when they get the news that their daughter, who’s been living in Spain for years, has been murdered.

Not knowing a word of Spanish, John and Geraldine fly to a village on the Mediterranean Costa del Sol. While enduring days of painful formalities and uncertainties in the police investigation of the crime, they’re forced to live together and understand each other again, as they each reconstruct a past full of emptiness and repressed emotion: a dizzying infatuation and a marriage mired in routine, infidelity and discord, while they ignored a daughter who needed their full attention.

In their attempt to investigate everything they didn’t know about their daughter’s life and the murky circumstances of her murder, John and Geraldine are presented with a wonderful and unexpected chance to atone for some of their past mistakes.

"An impeccably crafted novel that provides a lucid, honest account of the experience of losing a loved one, as well as an edifying lesson of reconciliation with oneself and with life." Ignacio Echevarría, El Cultural

«Faced with such a story, so true and accurate in its tone, in its narrative voice and in its authenticity of the situations that displays, one must surrender.» Pilar Castro, El Cultural

"A novel with a murder where finding the killer is not the most important thing. Very original." Alicia Giménez Bartlett

"An emotional story about bad decisions, heartbreak, redemption, and second chances. An intimist novel that starts with the pain of loss and delves into the complexity of feelings, and how far we’re capable of going to save our loved ones and recover the past." Quelibroleo.com

"This new novel by Ángeles González-Sinde, the former Minister of Culture, stands out for the simplicity, the transparency and the understanding with inner dialogue the story of the characters is chiselled. The story unfolds in two different perspectives: the past, with the memories of the failed marriage; and the present, the most successful and interesting part for those who love a crime story, with the description of the strange absence that death leaves in its wake, turning the places where a loved one once lived into an empty and meaningless space." ABC

"A novel with an agile narration that takes us on a journey through the depths of the human being, where we find strength, generosity and an enormous internal struggle. Después de Kim teaches us to differentiate the important from the essentials in life." In Magazine

"An impeccably crafted novel that provides a lucid, honest account of the experience of losing a loved one, as well as an edifying lesson of reconciliation with oneself and with life." Ignacio Echevarría, El Cultural
