A vida intima de Laura / The Private Life of Laura
Books for children and young readers , 1974
Rocco
Author of one of the most intriguing short stories in Brazilian literature — “The Egg and the Hen” — Clarice Lispector also chose this clumsy little animal as the protagonist of her children’s book The Private Life of Laura. In the short story, the hen is presented as a being with “a rich inner life” and, above all, as a “disguise for the egg” — a symbol of the mystery of existence. Likewise, in The Private Life, Clarice, as always, unveils for young readers the mystery hidden beneath everyday life. All of it unfolds from the small universe of Laura, a very charming hen with a rather ugly neck, who is married to a vain rooster named Luís.
