The attempt to kidnap Picasso's Guernica during the 1937 Paris International Exposition—commissioned by the Nazis—is linked to the disappearance of the painting The Reaper (El segador), the large mural that Joan Miró painted on panels at the same exhibition as an artistic response to Picasso's masterpiece. Miró's mythical Reaper vanished forever, and today all that remains of it is a magnificent black-and-white photograph.
David Cirici's novel combines the Nazi mission against "degenerate art," the investigation into the disappearance of Miró's legendary mural, a story of love and revenge in France just before World War II, the world of art forgers, and, finally, the artistic rivalry between two unforgettable figures: Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró.
