Els errors (The Mistakes) is a love story set in Roses and Barcelona during the saddest years of the Franco regime and the most cheerful years of early tourism. A novel as murky as it is brilliant. A tale about indecision in the matters of life and about complicity with a system that weaves networks of cowardice.
A tale about a kind of mistake that, in reality, we can never know for certain whether it is one or not, because in life there is no room for rehearsal and repetition. Be that as it may, Joan Hernando’s mistakes are of omission, of indecision. Maria Alomar manages to convince him that it is much better to be a lover than a husband. Joan feels humiliated by Alfonso Palau, for whom he works, but he is incapable of rebelling. By the time he realizes it, the character is already too late. But not entirely: in his old age, he is still capable of trying again.
