Why have they been confined to isolated schools?

The only world they know is the school and its surroundings. The only possible contact with the outside world is the telephone. Everything is programmed: classes, meals, showers, games, reading. The teachers are holograms.

But a series of chance events leads several boys to discover and understand the mechanisms by which the school operates and, at the same time, to make contact with a group of girls from a not-so-distant school. Then, the routine breaks and everything becomes complicated. Little by little, these boys and girls—all of them teenagers—experience the birth of friendship and, as they feel themselves growing up, the birth of love. Later, they discover a hostile and brutal world: that of adults.

Why have they been confined to isolated schools? Why did their parents accept it? From what danger did they want to save them?
