The second novel of the “El laberinto mágico” series is set in the republican zone during the Spanish civil war in the city of Valencia. As in all the works of Max Aub, his interest focuses more on people than on ideas; therefore, the war scene cedes its way into the daily world and the novel offers a realistic, everyday approach to the conflict. There was a radio dramatization of this short story in the German language.
