Luísa Sobral wins the Prémio Livreiros Bertrand para Autores Lusófonos 2025

Portuguese author Luísa Sobral has been awarded the Prémio Livreiros Bertrand para Autores Lusófonos 2025 for her work Nem Todas as Árvores Morrem de Pé. The prize recognizes the best original work in the Portuguese language published in the previous year.

The award is granted from a selection of works previously voted on by Bertrand booksellers and readers. In this edition, Sobral was the winner in both the booksellers’ category —with more than four hundred professionals voting— and the readers’ category. The prize is endowed with ten thousand euros.

Nem Todas as Árvores Morrem de Pé is a novel about two women united by disillusionment and by the fifty saddest years in German history. With a highly original structure and an unforgettable gallery of characters, the work marks the author’s debut in fiction.
